The world’s largest marine wind-assisted propulsion system using rotorsails has been officially launched.
On April 17, the world's largest marine wind-powered rotor-assisted propulsion system, developed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation's 725 Institute, was officially released, marking a significant leap from following to leading in certain areas of high-end marine environmental protection equipment.
The world's largest marine wind-powered rotor-assisted propulsion system has a diameter of 5 meters, a height of 35 meters, and weighs 150 tons. This system can efficiently capture wind energy during navigation, providing additional thrust for ships, and can save 5%–25% of fuel consumption for large ocean-going vessels on average, thereby reducing carbon emissions accordingly.
According to the relevant person in charge, industry forecasts indicate that by 2030, there will be approximately 7,000 ships equipped with wind sails globally, with the market size for rotor sails reaching the level of hundreds of billions of yuan. By 2050, the market size could reach 300 billion yuan.
It is reported that China's newly released world's largest marine wind-powered rotor-assisted propulsion system has already passed land-based testing, laying the foundation for subsequent mass production.
