The Second Phase Labor Competition and First Skills Contest for the Governance of the South Channel of the Yangtze River Estuary Kicks Off

On August 14, the flags fluttered and the prefabricated components were neatly arranged at the Hengsha Base of the Yangtze Estuary Channel Management Bureau. With the sound of the whistle, the "Excel in the South Channel, Strive for Excellence" labor competition and the first skill contest officially began. Cheers and shouts echoed across the competition venue as participants demonstrated skilled movements and seamless teamwork. Two group practical competitions, polypropylene rope net layout and interlocking block tying, were staged alternately, creating a tense and lively atmosphere. Multiple two-person core teams from three project sections competed on the same stage, with all participants being skilled technicians rooted in frontline work. After rounds of practical competition, the construction Section III of the Yangtze Nanjing Channel Engineering Bureau and CCCC Shanghai Channel Bureau consortium won the Excellence Award, while the consortiums of CCCC Third Harbor Engineering Bureau, CCCC First Harbor Engineering Bureau, and Yangtze Chongqing Channel Engineering Bureau were awarded the Outstanding Organization Award.

It is reported that the two group events set up for this competition are key preliminary processes for underwater channel improvement. The precision of construction and the quality of tying directly affect the stability of the engineering structure and its long-term operational performance.

The Phase II South Channel labor competition closely aligns with the actual construction of the Phase II South Channel project, establishing a "Six Comparisons and Six Competitions" goal system: Compare quality management, compete for excellence in quality, improve the quality management system, focus on addressing common issues, and achieve comprehensive control over project quality; compare safety management, compete for safety control, solidify safety production responsibilities, strengthen closed-loop management of risks and hazards, and uphold the bottom line of safety production; compare construction efficiency, compete for milestone breakthroughs, scientifically coordinate construction organization, and ensure the effective implementation of project objectives; compare technological innovation, compete for technological advancement, vigorously promote the achievements of four new technologies, focus on tackling key processes, and produce innovative results such as construction method patents; compare ecological construction, compete for green demonstration, strictly adhere to ecological protection boundaries, implement various environmental protection measures, and build a green construction barrier; compare financial management, compete for standardized efficiency, strengthen full-process financial supervision, ensure financial security, and implement requirements related to the payment of migrant workers' wages. Through learning, practicing, and working via competition, all participating parties are driven to fully build the project into four demonstration projects: safe, innovative, green, and clean.

At the event site, seven youth teams marched with vigor and lined up neatly to receive their flags, marking the official debut of the first batch of youth commando teams for the Phase II South Channel project. According to the work arrangement of integrating party building with youth development, multiple youth commando teams were formed for the Phase II South Channel project, including two teams established at the bureau level: "Breaking Waves and Tackling Challenges" and "Clear Waters and Safe Navigation." Each participating section also formed unique youth teams focused on tackling challenges. The young members of the commando teams are deeply engaged in key tasks such as construction challenges, technological innovation, ecological protection, safety supervision, integrity education, and project promotion. They hone their skills in urgent, difficult, and critical tasks, using youthful strength to safeguard the construction of the four demonstration projects.

Zhang Tiejun, Director of the Yangtze Estuary Channel Management Bureau, issued three proposals to all participating units and frontline builders: First, raise political awareness and shoulder the mission of serving the national strategy. All builders should plan and advance project construction within the overall framework of national development strategy, integrating the spirit of model workers, labor, and craftsmanship throughout the construction process. Second, focus on construction goals and strive to create "Four Demonstration Projects." All participating teams should leverage labor competitions and skill contests to continuously align with the construction standards of "safe, innovative, green, and clean" projects. Third, unite efforts to forge a high-quality "Iron Army" for channel construction. All participating units should use labor competitions as a platform, aim for a century-quality project, and turn the construction site into a competition arena to compare precision, efficiency, quality, and contributions, delivering high-quality projects, solid skills, and pragmatic work styles.

This event was hosted by the Yangtze Estuary Channel Management Bureau and co-organized by the Phase II South Channel project participating units, including CCCC Third Harbor Engineering Bureau, CCCC First Harbor Engineering Bureau, Yangtze Chongqing Channel Engineering Bureau, Yangtze Nanjing Channel Engineering Bureau, and CCCC Shanghai Channel Bureau.

Next, the Yangtze Estuary Channel Management Bureau will take this labor competition as an opportunity to continue building a regular platform for skill training and technical exchanges, and to create high-standard safe, innovative, green, and clean demonstration projects, providing solid channel support for the construction of a strong transportation nation, the Shanghai International Shipping Center, and the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
