The 2025 Domestic Coastal Provincial Freight Ship Capacity Analysis Report systematically combs the capacity data of the three major ship types. In terms of dry bulk carriers, by the end of 2025, there were 2387 ships with 81.122 million dwt, a slight decrease of 0.3 per cent in total capacity compared to 2024, mainly due to the larger scale of capacity withdrawals than additions. The average age of ships increased to 11.6 years, and the proportion of old ships decreased slightly. In terms of container ships, capacity continued to grow, with total container positions reaching 1.026 million TEU, an increase of 3.0 per cent, with an average age of 8.8 years, but the proportion of old ships increased significantly. Liquid cargo dangerous goods ships showed differentiation: oil tanker capacity fell by 1.6, the average age of 11.6 years, old ships accounted for more than half; chemical ship capacity increased by 3.6, the average age of the ship fell to 8.8 years, the fleet is relatively young; liquefied gas ship capacity increased by 7.7, but the average age of the ship is 12.1 years, the proportion of old and special inspection ships is higher. On the whole, the market is dynamically adjusted through new capacity and early exit, and the age structure and capacity change trend of different ship types vary.
